Mississippi Comic Con, aka MS Comic Con, is a two-day celebration of pop culture held at Mississippi Trade Mart, Jackson, in late June. Featuring cosplay, celebrity guests, artists, and a huge collectibles market, the show promises an unforgettable weekend for various fan groups. So bring your entire family and have a blast at this colorful celebration of entertainment!
Guests
Throughout its history, the convention has featured many legendary figures from the entertainment industry and this year isn't an exception. During its two-day run, you'll have a chance to meet and interact with Tom Kenny, the voice of SpongeBob, and voice actors Alan Tudyk, Michelle Ruff, and Blake Roman. Other featured celebrities include Keith David, Skeet Ulrich, Tom Wilson, Nolan North, and many others.
Gaming Tournaments
Another huge part of Mississippi Comic Con are its game tournaments, where video game fans compete for the victory prize. This year, you'll have a chance to challenge yourself in SMASH and Street Fighter 6. Competitions take place on both days. Even if you don't want the prize, it's still a great opportunity to have some fun and play your favorite game for free.
If you're a fan of old-school table-top gaming, there's a board game competition just for you! Featuring Magic the Gathering, Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh!, the tournament also offers prizes and a chance to test their skills and board game strategies.
Cosplay Contest
The art of cosplay requires a lot of effort and preparation, and the costume contest is a great opportunity to witness your efforts come to fruition. Children can also participate and show off their attire. The contest is divided into a Masquerade, Kids Cosplay Masquerade for younger children, and a Craftsmanship Competition. The Masquerade contestants compete for the titles of Best Group, Fan Favorite, and Best Overall, while in the Craftsmanship one you will be judged on the design and construction of your outfit. Registration takes place at Briumbra Photography booth.
Other Entertainment
Apart from competitions and autograph sessions, you can also explore the convention's grounds and try your hand at arcade games, purchase fandom merchandise from vendors, and, most importantly, interact with other fans. The social aspect has always been at the heart of Comic Con, with enthusiasts from many fandoms gathering together. The panel discussions related to different films, comics and games are also worth looking forward to.
Price of Tickets
The online price is $30 per single-day visit and $50 for the weekend. The cost is higher when you purchase tickets at the door. Military members get a discount: a one-day ticket costs $25, and a weekend pass costs $40. Kids aged ten and under can get in for free. Some autograph sessions and photo opportunities are also subject to additional fees.
Schedule
The convention runs from 10 am to 6 pm on Saturday and 11 am to 5 pm on Sunday. Registration for costume contest begins at 10 am and lasts until 2:30 pm, with the show itself starting at 5 pm on Saturday. SMASH and Street Fighter 6 gaming tournaments take place on both days at 1 pm and 2 pm accordingly. Board game competitions unfold at 3 pm on both days as well.
