Every August, the Indiana State Fair takes place in Indianapolis at the northwest corner of 38th Street and Fall Creek Parkway. The largest and most significant premise at the fairgrounds is the Indiana Farmers Coliseum.

Event Highlights

At every Indiana State Fair, a variety of competitions take center stage. The 4-H, the largest youth development program in the USA, plays a significant role, featuring various competitions for young 4-H members. This year's main competitions include Indiana State Fair Band Day, Cheerleading Competition, Youth Talent Contest, and Street Dance Competition. Additionally, there are art and culinary contests, alongside numerous agricultural competitions.

Operational Hours & Tickets

Gates open daily at 9 am, with no tickets sold after 8 pm. Single-day general admission tickets are priced at $13, while children aged five and under enter for free.

Activities

The Midway, a beloved feature of the fair, offers a plethora of rides and games. Unlimited ride wristbands are available online for approximately $25 or at the entrance for $40. Rides typically operate from noon until 10 pm, providing ample time for enjoyment. For family-friendly entertainment, visitors can explore the MHS Family Fun Park, a smoke-free area open daily from 9 am to 8 pm, offering activities for all ages. The Taproom, located in the Grand Hall across from the Indiana Farmers Coliseum, is open daily and showcases Indiana beer, wine, and spirits. Guests can enjoy tastings and purchase beverages by the glass from 12 pm to 9 pm, Tuesday through Sunday. Attendees can also visit Pioneer Village, situated between the Machinery Field and the MHS Family Fun Park. Here, everyone can discover antique tractor exhibitions, a farm toy show, and more.

History

The history of the fair dates back to 1852 when the first event was held on the grounds of Military Park. Indiana became the sixth state to hold an agricultural fair. In 1919, President Woodrow Wilson gave a speech here known as "Big Thursday." It was also attended by other US Presidents.

Parking & Shuttle Service

Parking is available for $10 in the Infield. Cars and vans can enter through the 38th St. Main Gate, Fall Creek Parkway Gate, or Gate 10 at the northeast corner of 42nd Street. Alternatively, guests can park at the Indiana School for the Deaf off of 42nd Street for the same fee. Complimentary shuttle service is provided, operating on Wednesdays from 10 am to 10 pm, Thursdays from 10 am to 5 pm, and Fridays to Sundays from 10 am to 10 pm.

Rules & Restrictions

To re-enter the Fairgrounds later, guests must obtain a hand stamp upon exiting, otherwise, they'll need to pay the $14 entrance fee for re-entry. Re-entry after 8 pm is not permitted. All kinds of weapons, drones, and pets are prohibited.
