QUANDO ANDARE
Olympic National Park offers a stunning variety of landscapes, from rugged coastlines and dense rainforests to alpine peaks. The weather varies significantly across the park’s regions, and visitors should be prepared for unpredictable conditions, particularly in the rainforests, where rainfall is common year-round.
The ideal time to visit for mild weather and outdoor activities is between April and October. Summer (June to August) is especially favorable, with warmer temperatures and lower rainfall, making it perfect for hiking, backpacking, and fishing. While summer draws the largest crowds, fall offers a quieter experience with fewer visitors. Autumn (September to November) brings cooler weather and vibrant foliage, making it a scenic time for hiking. Fall is also great for exploring the park’s abundant fungi, fishing, and whale watching, while boating, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding are best from late spring to early fall. Wildlife enthusiasts will find summer ideal for spotting Roosevelt elk and Olympic marmots.
Spring (March to May) is excellent for those interested in wildlife, particularly gray whale migrations along the coast. The lush green landscapes during this season also add to the park’s appeal. In winter, higher elevations like Hurricane Ridge become snowy wonderlands, perfect for snowshoeing and skiing. However, Hurricane Ridge Road, which provides access to the Olympic Range, is often closed during winter except on Fridays, weekends, and select holidays.
