Every September, North Haven, located on the outskirts of the city of New Haven, Connecticut, holds a traditional agriculture fair with plenty of family-friendly entertainment. The annual North Haven Fair features carnival rides and games, food, entertainment, exhibits, a petting zoo, music, and much more. Kids will surely be excited to see cow milking, a Horse Drawing Contest, or attend the KiDZ Dance Party.

Entertainment Program

The highlights of the North Haven Fair include a tractor pull, a lawn mower race, a demolition derby, an ox pull, pig races, and wrestling. Children will enjoy fun, family-friendly events, such as a juggling spectacle, karaoke, and, of course, carnival rides. Livestock animals have been significant to the fair since its inception: besides traditional exhibits, you have a chance to witness cow and goat milking and wander around the petting zoo.

Live Music

From lively country music to high-energy rock bangers, North Haven Fair covers all the basics when it comes to its music lineup. The performances take place at the venue's gazebo, the main stage and in the Beer Garden. In the past, the fair featured local stars from Connecticut, including The Blue Water Boys, Joe D Band, Jason Heffernan Band, Kings Of Karma, and Kayla Barone.

Food & Beverages

Delicious fair food is a must-have of any county fair, and North Haven doesn't disappoint. The menu features all kinds of culinary delights, ranging from meat pies, waffle fries, and stuffed grilled cheese to funnel cakes and ice cream sundaes. The beer garden at the festival grounds offers refreshing beverages from local breweries and distilleries.

Schedule & Hours

Gates are open from 5 pm to 10 pm on Thursday, from 3 pm to 11 pm on Friday, from 10 am to 11 pm on Saturday, and from 10 am to 7 pm on Sunday. Carnival hours also differ depending on the day: it's open from 5 pm until closing on Thursday, from 3 pm on Friday, and from 11 am on Saturday and Sunday.

Tickets & Admission

General admission to the fair costs $12. Children under the age of 12 can get in for free with adult supervision. On Sunday, admission for seniors over 65 years old is discounted and costs $8. For drivers, parking is completely free at the venue. If you'd like to enjoy carnival rides, you should either buy ride tickets or a carnival bracelet.

Fairgrounds Location

North Haven Fairgrounds is located 9 miles (14 km) from New Haven and 30 miles (48 km) from Hartford, with easy access off Exit 12 on I-91. The grounds are situated at Washington Avenue and offer free parking. Note that parking is limited and, due to the popularity of the event, might be a bit time-consuming.

History of the Fair

The four-day event not only entertains its visitors but also educates them about the farming heritage of Connecticut. The fair, held since 1942, has been the favorite local tradition for many generations. Its objectives and goals stayed the same, with a focus on agricultural promotion.
