Springfield 4th of July Buck Creek Boom Fireworks 2024

Witness the Independence Day celebration at the Banks of Buck Creek

Dates: July 3

Located in Clark County, the city of Springfield holds an annual 4th of July weekend celebration—the Buck Creek Boom. This year marks the 28th anniversary of this magnificent fireworks display, hosted by National Trail Parks and Recreation District. Drawing in hundreds of people every year, this show is known for having some of the most spectacular pyrotechnic sceneries.

Schedule and Admission

This spectacular Independence Day firework show usually takes place on the Sunday closest to the Fourth. Springfield fireworks are launched at dusk around 10 pm from Ferncliff from the banks of Buck Creek. Thanks to local businesses and community members supporting the show, you can enjoy the event for free. Note that organizers also reserve a rain date in case of unfavorable weather conditions. This year, in case of severe weather, the event will be moved to July 7th.

Best Locations to Watch

The fireworks can be seen from various places in the city, but there are some areas where you'll be able to get most amazing snapshots of the show. Some of the best viewpoints include Wittenberg University, Springfield Museum of Art and Snyder Whitewater Park. Organizers recommend watching the spectacular from higher points in the city. Parking in the parking lot of Springfield Regional Medical Center for the fireworks show is frowned upon.

Other Places to Visit

The area near Ferncliff in Springfield township is filled with parks and greenery, so consider settling down for a picnic in one of them before the fireworks spectacle. Swing by Snyder Park and visit Snyder Park Gardens and Arboretum to see some of the most beautiful flowers and trees. Or consider stopping by the Veterans Park to enjoy the quiet and scenic sights.

Right nearby, the Springfield Museum of Art holds regular exhibitions and workshops. The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm. Entry costs $5 for adults and free for students. Also, take into account that Downtown Springfield is located some 60 miles (97 km) from Downtown Columbus, so you can take an hour's drive and also spend some time in Ohio's state capital.
