Der Sonnentempel von Abu Simbel ist eine prächtige Struktur der Pharaonen Ägyptens. Zweimal im Jahr wird er zum Veranstaltungsort des Sonnenfestes - am 22. Februar und genau acht Monate später, am 22. Oktober. An diesen Tagen beleuchten die Strahlen der Sonne das innere Heiligtum des Tempels.

This incredible phenomenon gives a spectacular sight: the light that streams into the complex reflects on the statue of Ramses II and the Sun God’s seated statues, illuminating the entire place and highlighting the brilliant architecture. It’s interesting, but the sun illuminates statues of Amun-Re, Re-Herakhte, and Ramses, the god, while the statue of Ptah, the god of darkness, remains in the shadows.

From early morning, crowds of people assemble in the temple to watch the sunrise as it slowly creeps through the inner Hypostyle Hall and through to the sanctuary. Tourists from all across come to the much-celebrated Sun Festival. This unusual phenomenon proves the immense knowledge of astronomy and technology that ancient Egyptians applied to make such a construction.

Nach diesem Spektakel begeben sich die Leute auf die Straßen, wo sie traditionelle nubische Tänze aufführen, Live-Musik spielen und köstliches Essen genießen, und die Feier bis zum Ende des Tages fortsetzen.

Abu Simbel Sonnenfest Termine

Das Abu Simbel Sun Festival findet zweimal im Jahr statt: am 22. Oktober und am 22. Februar. Man glaubt, dass der Tempel so gebaut wurde, dass die Statue von Ramses II nur an zwei Tagen im Jahr von den Sonnenstrahlen beleuchtet wird - angeblich am Jahrestag von Ramses' Thronbesteigung und an seinem Geburtstag, die auf den 21. Februar und den 21. Oktober fallen. Aber im Laufe der Zeit haben sich die Daten um einen Tag verschoben.
