Miglior periodo: fine febbraio-inizio marzo
Almond trees are scattered across various areas in Torre de Moncorvo, but the largest plantations can be found in the village of Açoreira. The almond blossom festivities are centered in Torre de Moncorvo, featuring events like the Almond Blossom Market and gastronomic weekends that span several weekends.
In Freixo de Espada à Cinta, the most picturesque spot to view almond trees in bloom is along Estrada Nacional 221, just past Barca D'Alva. The route offers stunning scenery, with the landscape tracing the curves of the Douro River and adorned with pink and white almond blossoms. The highlight of the celebrations here is the Almond Blossom Fair, which brings vibrancy to the town. This year, on February 22-23 and March 1-2, 2025, the Feira da Amendoeira em Flor will return to Freixo de Espada à Cinta, continuing its tradition of celebrating the almond blossom season.
Mogadouro is another essential stop along the almond blossom route. While the plantations here are smaller, the almond trees are still a delightful sight. Estrada Nacional 221 remains a reliable route to enjoy the blooming landscapes, particularly in the final stretch.
Vila Nova de Foz Côa, often referred to as the capital of almond blossoms, boasts over 100,000 almond trees across the municipality. This abundance makes it a prime destination to witness the spectacle of almond trees in bloom. The annual Almond Blossom Festival adds to the charm, infusing the city with energy and celebration.
From February 14 to March 2, Vila Nova de Foz Côa will host the Almond Blossom Festival, celebrating the breathtaking beauty of almond trees in bloom. This year's edition promises to draw numerous visitors with a diverse and high-quality program that highlights cultural richness, musical performances catering to all tastes, and strong community involvement through contributions from local associations and organizations.
The festival offers a chance to experience stunning landscapes, rich heritage, traditional cuisine, and vibrant traditions. The entry to the Almond Blossom Festival in Vila Nova de Foz Côa is typically free. However, some activities or events within the festival, such as specific performances, guided tours, or workshops, might have associated fees.
