Carnaval de negros y blancos 2026 en Colombia

La característica principal del carnaval de los negros y blancos es que las personas se pintan y se colorean entre sí con cualquier cosa en la que se pongan las manos: pintura, pulido, grasa, talco, tiza y harina. El 5 de enero es el día de los negros y el 6 de enero es el día de los blancos. El día de los negros conmemora el tiempo en que los esclavos africanos fueron liberados.

Generalmente, la celebración en Pasto comienza el 28 de diciembre con algunos eventos divertidos pre-carnaval. En el primer día la gente de todas las edades pasea por las calles y lanza cubos de agua uno al otro. Es seguido por la Serenada al Pasto donde las bandas locales y los cantantes tocan la guitarra u otros instrumentos de cuerda. El 2 de enero marca el comienzo real del festival con impresionantes desfiles.

The origins of this carnival trace back to the colonial era when enslaved Black individuals requested their Spanish masters for a single day of freedom each year. This request was granted, and January 5 became the designated day. On this day, the Black community celebrated their heritage with vibrant festivities honoring their roots and ancestry. The joyful atmosphere was so infectious that white participants joined in, painting their faces black to be part of the celebration, which extended into the early hours of the next day.

Today, the Black and White Carnival is recognized as the only Colombian Carnival with distinctly indigenous roots, enriched by the blending of diverse cultural influences that followed the country's independence.
