History of Le Chemin de la Corniche

Constructed by the Spanish and French in the 17th century, the Corniche featured stairs in its steeper areas until 1870. Following the demolition of the fortress, these stairs were removed, allowing for a more level pathway. As a result, large sections of the protective walls, which had loopholes, were also taken down, providing unobstructed views of the Alzette Valley, the Grund district, and the Rham plateau. In the 19th century, urban planners significantly enhanced the Corniche, aiming to improve the city's scenic charm while maintaining its historical significance.
