The stadium originally opened in 2006 as Cardinals Stadium. In September of that year, the University of Phoenix acquired the naming rights, renaming it University of Phoenix Stadium under a 20-year agreement. However, in September 2018, the name changed to State Farm Stadium after an 18-year naming rights deal was signed with the insurance company.
