Don't be surprised when you are served a cup of coffee or a cappuccino and a croissant every morning, for that is very likely to happen if you stay at any local house or hotel in Rome. Actually, this meal set is considered a normal everyday Italian breakfast, established long ago by the founders of the Mediterranean diet. A stranger from abroad may even become frustrated if not starve to madness being offered such a scanty meal every day. But in the summer, it is perfect—a cup of cold caffè freddo is a wonderful start for the hot season.
