The Metropolitan City of Naples is a historical area in South Italy that is famous for the UNESCO-listed city centre, ancient ruins of Pompeii, and nearby Mount Vesuvius. April and May is the best time to visit Naples, and not only due to the comfortable weather and wisteria blooming. Maggio dei Monumenti is the festival of arts and culture that features theatre performances, exhibitions, and multimedia installations. May is also time for the annual donkey race Palio del Casale and the Wine&Thecity wine festival. September is another good time to visit Napoli to indulge in delicious food at Napoli Pizza Village Festival and beautiful Festa di Piedigrotta with colourful floats in Mergellina. Summer's scorching heat and tourist crowds might discourage you from visiting Naples from June to August. In winter, temps and tourist numbers drop.
