South Beach and Art Deco district are a perfect place to display resort fashion. With bikini season all year round, Fashion Week here is as hot as it can get. The event takes place every year in late May or early June featuring some of the best collections by international designers. The Ice Palace Film Studios hosts the runway shows.
It started back in 2008 with Karl Lagerfeld holding Chanel Resort Show at The Raleigh Hotel on South Beach. The models were walking on a catwalk built over the hotel’s legendary pool demonstrating the latest Chanel resort wear. The show also featured a performance by U.S. Olympic synchronized swimmers. This amazing show paved the way for other luxury fashion brands to show their collections in Miami. In 2016 Miami Fashion Week was established as the world’s first fashion week focused on resort wear. Antonio Banderas was named Honorary President of Miami Fashion Week. The event has been attracting many celebrities, fashion bloggers and trendsetters. This 4-day event presents the latest cruise, resort and pre-Spring collections of top world's designers. Traditionally, many designers from Central and South America take part as Miami is often considered to be the gateway to Latin America.
Miami Fashion Week is cultivating the fashion industry in Miami, which is home to many artists and designers and reaffirming the city's reputation as the vibrant fashion hub.
