Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities at the festival, including chestnut vendors, traditional music, and exciting competitions. Key highlights are "Il Palio delle Contrade," a captivating contest among Scala's six districts featuring traditional games and a thrilling donkey race. The square comes alive with live music and concerts by local bands, enhancing the festive atmosphere.
The town center is transformed into a rustic marketplace featuring stalls that offer local specialties, including gnocchi and pasta made with chestnuts or chestnut flour. Visitors can also indulge in tempting chestnut cream-filled desserts and enjoy freshly roasted chestnuts. Chestnut tarts and chestnut jam are also must-try treats. As always, festivals in Italy impress with their delectable offerings and creative flair.
The festival typically spans two weekends in October. This year, the 47th edition will be held on October 12-13 and 19-20.
Scala is a charming village perched 450 meters above sea level on the Amalfi Coast, nestled in the Lattari Mountains. It is separated from Ravello by the Dragon Valley and is the oldest settlement in the area. Surrounded by lush woods, terraced olive groves, and vineyards, Scala offers a peaceful retreat steeped in history and natural beauty. The village is divided into six distinct hamlets: Santa Caterina, Campoleone, Campidoglio, Scala, Minuta, and Pontone, each with its unique character.
