Swimming in millennial cenotes can become one of the most impressive things about your vacation in Mexico. Ancient Mayans once used these mysterious cave sinkholes filled with pure freshwater for religious rituals and nowadays are popular swimming spots. Quite a few of them can be found in the settlements around Cancun. However, the most praised and well-known must be the cenotes of Quintana Roo.

Discovering the oceans, reefs, and cenotes of Cancun can be truly wonderful all year round. Just remember the water temperatures are at their lowest in February and March and at their highest from July through October. The best period to dive in cenotes without much rainfall or hurricanes is between December and August.
