Winter in Yellowstone is stunning. Cold temperatures and snowy landscapes mixe with boiling hot springs and geysers to create unique nature views. This cold season usually starts with the first heavy snowfall in November and lasts till mid-March. Temperatures vary due to the elevation level. The annual snowfall on the whole territory of the park is about 4 m, while at the higher elevations it can be even 5-10 m.

Lakes and rivers freeze, some of them even till summer. Sometimes the park roads can be closed due to the weather factor. Most restaurants, shops and campgrounds are closed as well. The main means of transport are snowshoes, skis, snowmobiles, and snowcoaches, other vehicles are strictly forbidden. Due to the cold weather and road closure this is not the best season to come. Although there are some enthusiasts who come to marvel the extraordinary winter scenery of Yellowstone.
