The Emmy Awards, or Primetime Emmys, are a prestigious part of the extensive range of Emmy Awards that recognize artistic and technical excellence in the American television industry. This sparkling event is eagerly anticipated by spectators, actors, producers, and everyone involved in television. Beyond the curiosity about who will win, viewers also enjoy the fabulous shows during prime time. The Primetime Emmy Awards attract millions of viewers not only in the US but also around the world.

Awards & Categories

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences produces the Emmy Awards. Only academy members are eligible to vote for the awards, and they do so exclusively within their own discipline—actors vote for actors, writers for writers, and so on. Awards are granted in various categories, including dramatic series, comedy series, special drama, limited series, and variety, music, or comedy. Within each category, the best program is selected, and in most categories, the best actor and actress, supporting actor and actress, director, and writer are also chosen. Additionally, awards are given for special achievement, creative arts, and technical categories.

2024 Nomanations

Leading the pack for the 2024 Emmy nominations, unveiled Wednesday morning, is FX's "Shogun," with 25 nominations, including best drama series, setting several records. Other top nominees include FX's "The Bear" with 23 nominations, Hulu's "Only Murders in the Building" with 21, HBO/Max's "True Detective: Night Country" with 19, and Netflix's "The Crown" with 18. Overall, Netflix tops the list with 107 nominations across 35 programs, followed by FX with 93 nominations for nine programs, HBO with 91 for 29 programs, and Apple TV+ with 72 for 16 programs. The Walt Disney Co., which has series and projects across FX, ABC, Hulu, Disney+, and others, achieved a personal best with 183 Emmy nominations.

Red Carpet

The Television Academy promotes creativity, diversity, education, leadership, and innovations in the television arts and sciences. If you don't get tickets for the show, there is always another way to become a part of it. Everyone who wants to see their favorite stars live should go downtown to the Microsoft Theater (formerly known as Nokia Theater), where they walk the red carpet in all their glory.

History of Emmy Awards

The National Academy was formed in 1946 and in 1949 presented the first Emmys. In that year, six awards were made. Separate ceremonies evolved for news and documentaries in 1973, daytime programming in 1974, prime-time programming in 1977, and sports in 1979.
