Best time of year to visit Los Angeles

There is always something to do in the City of Angels. Breathable air, moderate room rates, and less rigorous tourist crowds turn March to May and September to November into the best time to visit Los Angeles. Spring is all about enjoying whale watching and poppy blooming, while fall is perfect for surfing, exploring the city and enjoying Disneyland with shorter queues (except Halloween and Thanksgiving). Pricey and misty peak season from June to August will guide you straight to overpacked beaches. However, summer can be entertaining as well, with its numerous events like LA Pride or 4th of July parties. Wintertime in the largest city of California is relatively warm, comfortable, and fully redresses frequent rainy days with dispersing crowds, deals on hotel rooms, and grand events like Grammy Awards and Academy Awards.

Los Angeles weather in January

10.5/10 score
Ideal
10° average
average temperatures

precipitation
6h 24m
daylight duration
Even though January is considered to be a rainy month in Los Angeles, the city can be relatively warm with partly sunny skies. Bear in mind that the rainy days might happen in Los Angeles throughout January. Fortunately, the showers occur in short periods. The weather feels more like spring: the mornings might be cool, afternoon temps range in the twenties or even higher, and the nights might be chilly. Although the nearby San Gabriel Mountains are fully covered with snow in winter, you'll rarely meet even a grain of snow in LA. In general, you'll mostly need a comfortable summer outfit during your January trip to LA. Another good idea is to bring a sweater or light coat with you to cope with unstable weather. Umbrella or light waterproof poncho will also be to the point.

Los Angeles weather in February

10.5/10 score
Ideal
10° average
average temperatures
10 mm
precipitation
6h 24m
daylight duration
February is one of the coldest and wettest months of the year in Los Angeles. However, a bit spring-like feeling with less rain and sunnier days still can follow you from time to time. Comparing to European winter, the weather in Los Angeles is rather warm and pleasant throughout a month. Even though the sea temperatures remain chilly, you still have a chance to catch a burst of sunshine on the beaches. February also faces nearly six days of rain and nearly zero days of snow. The skies will remain notably clear for the rest of the month. Coastal areas seem to be a bit colder than the inland, so plan accordingly if you chose February as a month for a trip to LA. Bring warmer clothes for cooler evenings and lighter outfits for the day time promenade. As the risk of rain is quite high, mind packing an umbrella or rainwear with you.

Los Angeles weather in March

10.5/10 score
Ideal
10° average
average temperatures
10 mm
precipitation
6h 24m
daylight duration
Balmy weather of March makes it a lovely time to visit Los Angeles, with temps climbing slightly higher over February's. The spring-like and sometimes even summer-like air temperatures are pleasant enough for tanning. However, the ocean waters are still a bit cool for swimming. It can be even hot in the afternoon, but the early morning and overnight temperatures are typically lower. There is also a slight risk for you to face the rain showers, so an umbrella might come in handy. Even though the weather in LA is mostly mild in March, pack a windbreaker or warm hoodie to cover yourself in the cooler mornings and evenings. The warmer days demands from you to bring summer clothes as well as a pair of comfortable walking shoes. Sunglasses and a hat are also desirable.

Los Angeles weather in April

10.5/10 score
Ideal
10° average
average temperatures
10 mm
precipitation
6h 24m
daylight duration
Los Angeles is fantastic in April with its dry and sunny weather. The humidity disperses from the atmosphere, but the climate gets very changeable throughout a month. So there is still a chance of a shower during your stay. April is a pleasant time when the temperatures creep up, and the amount of daily sunshine increases over March. However, the temperature of the water still isn't suitable for swimming, so enjoy your sunbathing on the beach. Be sure to pack your summer clothes if you are planning a trip to LA in April. Bring sunglasses or and a wide-brimmed hat to keep your eyes and head safe. An umbrella or waterproof poncho is still desirable.

Los Angeles weather in May

10.5/10 score
Ideal
10° average
average temperatures
10 mm
precipitation
6h 24m
daylight duration
May can be a perfect time for a trip to Los Angeles as it is substantially drier than April and with less rainfall. Just two days in the whole month—who would have thought? You might not even need packing an umbrella! The daily temps reach the twenties and get down only at night. While traveling in May, you'll meet clear skies along with nearly 13 hours of pleasant sunshine to enjoy sightseeing and outdoor activities. The ocean is just started to warm up, so you'd better be limited by playing in the sand or sunbathing. Clothes made of light material like linen shirts or t-shirts will be suitable for your May trip to Los Angeles. Packing a warm jumper in case of a cool evening will also be a good idea.

Los Angeles weather in June

10.5/10 score
Ideal
10° average
average temperatures
10 mm
precipitation
6h 24m
daylight duration
Cloudy June opens the summer season in Los Angeles, and the climate becomes even warmer. The weather is mostly dry, mild, and nice with long and sunny days. Although the level of humidity is low, due to the phenomenon of June gloom, mornings by the end of the month might be cloudy and damp. The skies are clear for half of the month, and the probability of rain is relatively low. As there is hardly a likelihood of rain, you won't need an umbrella. Just pack light summer clothes like shorts and t-shirts along with sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat to feel comfortable during the day. However, a hoodie might stand you good stead overnight too.

Los Angeles weather in July

10.5/10 score
Ideal
10° average
average temperatures
10 mm
precipitation
6h 24m
daylight duration
As the summer is in full swing, Los Angeles is beginning to see moderately hot and humid weather making days extremely dry, sunny, and less windy. In July, the sky is mainly clear, and the sun shines about 12 hours daily, which makes July a perfect month to enjoy outdoor activities or exploring LA. The rain is almost impossible throughout July, that's why beaches are very popular in those days. However, the sun might be very dangerous in the heat of the day, so take all the necessary precautions before sunbathing. The sea, by the way, is pleasant during the month so swimming is another good option. Choose light and comfortable clothes like t-shirts, shorts, dresses as well as sandals when you are packing for a trip to LA in July. When heading to conquer the beaches, make sure to bring sunscreen along with a hat. Avoiding sitting under the sun during peak hours also makes sense.

Los Angeles weather in August

10.5/10 score
Ideal
10° average
average temperatures
10 mm
precipitation
6h 24m
daylight duration
August boasts with fantastic weather and is considered to be the hottest and the sunniest month of the year in Los Angeles. Nights are a bit cooler than days but still comfortable for staying outdoors. The humidity level is a bit higher early in the morning, but it significantly drops as the day progresses. Although this month is not the best for a visit due to the chords of tourists, the water in the ocean is quite appealing for swimmers and surfers. In August, Los Angeles sees no rain at all, and the weather throughout a month is close to perfect, especially for beach lovers. As August is amazingly dry in LA, you won't need an umbrella or raincoat. Bring light breathable clothes, proper footwear, sunglasses, and sunscreen with appropriate SPF instead. And don't forget about a good wide-brimmed hat to protect your head from the agressive sun.

Los Angeles weather in September

10.5/10 score
Ideal
10° average
average temperatures
10 mm
precipitation
6h 24m
daylight duration
September marks the start of the fall but also continues summer weather in Los Angeles at the same time. The city lazes both mild and hot days, with average daily temperatures steadily moving up to thirties. The skies without the clouds and the absence of rain make this month excellent for sightseeing and relaxing on the beach. The sea temperature is at its highest, which does water sports and swimming even more enjoyable. September is a nice month to spend in light clothes. T-shirts and shorts during a day in the city and light jumpers during the evenings near the coast will be your best choice. Even though the hours of sunlight are reduced a little, packing sunglasses, sunscreen and a hat are recommended.

Los Angeles weather in October

10.5/10 score
Ideal
10° average
average temperatures
10 mm
