This parade perhaps can be called the "grandfather" of strange parades in the world. It appeared in response to the Rose Parade, held every year on New Year's Day. Its full name sounds like "Occasional Pasadena Doo Dah Parade," and it began its existence in 1978 as a holiday in honour of all strange things. Now, this is a kind of institution with such divisions as "Kinetic Pastry Science Mobile Muffins" and "The Highland Park Thursday Evening Gentlemen's Society Circuit Bending Marching Band & Ladies' Auxiliary" and so on. The title goes with all that you can imagine, but most importantly it must be strange and unusual with absurd and unique participants—pundits, mutant art cars, lone wolves, steam punks, etc.
Pasadena Doo Dah Parade takes place annually in mid-November. Many groups take part in the parade to raise funds for various charities.
