Arts in the Dark Halloween Parade 2024, Chicago
The most fun fall event loved by kids and adults
Dates: October 19, 2024
The city of Chicago is known for its large artistic community, and Halloween is the time to enjoy many festive events and parades throughout the city, which show its creative side. The most famous Halloween parade is the Arts in the Dark, a magical nighttime parade not just for kids but also, and mostly, for grown-ups! World-renowned institutions, as well as artists of all kinds, come together to celebrate one of Chicago's favorite days known as the “artist’s holiday”.
This family-friendly parade of zombies, vampires, and skeletons begins at dusk. It features live music, colorful floats, amazing giant puppets, and lots of fun. The parade is organized by LUMA8 (8 creative leaders whose work can be seen everywhere in Chicago).
Parade Route
The Parade moves along South State Street southward from West Lake to West Van Buren Street. State Street will be closed to traffic. The public is advised to use public transportation to get to the parade. The closest parking is The Millennium Garages Grant Park North and Grant Park South garages, located two blocks east of the parade route. The event takes place rain or shine.
Arts in the Dark Parade History
Arts in the Dark dates back to 2014. The event, which is showcasing Chicago's celebrated cultural institutions, draws an audience of 50,000 thanks to its unique floats, wonderful puppets, and one-of-a-kind performances. In 2023, the parade was chosen one of the top 10 Halloween events in the United States by USA Today and included in Top 4 Halloween Events in the World by Wanderlust Magazine. This curated event brings together designers, architects, poets, actors, musicians, dancers, writers, chefs, film crews, set builders, costume designers, museum staff, visual artists, and children, who are future artists. One of Chicago’s most iconic events is a celebration of art in all of its forms.
