San Antonio's River Walk is an excellent spot for an evening stroll at any time of the year. There are shops, restaurants, historical places and picturesque boats on the canals. However, the site becomes magical in late November with San Antonio Riverwalk Christmas Lights illuminating your path. About 122,000 LEDs hang over San Antonio's River Walk for about 2.5 miles turning the place into a wonderland.
Ford Holiday River Parade
The annual lighting ceremony in November is accompanied by the spectacular Ford Holiday River Parade featuring dozens of decorated floats, bands and performers. Each float describes a traditional way San Antonians celebrate the holidays. Every year the parade is watched by over 150,000 people. Free seating areas on the parade route are available on the first come first serve basis. You can bring your chair and grab a spot.
Every year, a special concert of Christmas music takes place at the Arneson River Theatre before the parade. It is available only for ticket holders. The concert is followed by The River Walk Lighting Ceremony. The line-up includes many well-known Texas artists like Flaco Jimenez, Jimmie Vaughan, Patricia Vonne, Randy Brooks, Jimmy Spacek, and others. The main music genres at the Holiday River Parade are country, rock, blues, and jazz.
