Cortana Kiwanis Christmas Parade is an annual occasion, bringing 80,000 spectators to Downtown Baton Rouge. The street extravaganza takes place on a Saturday in early December. The parade starts at 5:30 pm from River Road at North Boulevard, proceeds to Convention, Fourth, Laurel, Sixth, Northland, and finishes at Lafayette. The colorful procession numbers around 80 entries, including vivid parade floats, dancing groups, and marching bands. By the way, if you wish to witness the Battle of Bands, you should come earlier, as it's scheduled for 4 pm. With free admission, the event is open to everyone.
Baton Rouge Christmas Parade was established in 1949. Over the years, this tradition has become a local favorite community celebration. The parade takes credit for being a Top 10 Signature Project for Kiwanis International and also a Signature Project Winner for the Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee District.
