Chandler Light Parade is a free community event, which takes place annually in early December in Chandler, a city southeast of Phoenix, Arizona. Thousands of people come to Dr. A.J. Chandler Park to see the nighttime parade, followed by the official lighting of the annual Tumbleweed Tree.
Tumbleweed Christmas Tree History
Tumbleweed Christmas Tree is one of the most unique holiday trees in the US and first appeared in Chandler in 1957. This desert-inspired Christmas tree was made by residents who gathered tumbleweed from around town. Since then, the Chandler Lights Parade has become one of the most popular holiday events in the greater Phoenix area, attracting visitors with dazzling displays of lights, colorful parades, and plenty of activities to keep the holiday spirit up.
Tumbleweed Tree Lighting
The Chandler Tumbleweed Tree Lighting Ceremony, a cherished holiday tradition, lights up Downtown Chandler with festive charm. Kicking off at 4:30 pm., this spectacular event features live performances from Kreative Dance Company, Modazz Dance Company, and the Chandler High Choirs, adding vibrant entertainment to the evening. Guests can marvel at the iconic Tumbleweed Tree and visit Santa for memorable photo opportunities. Festivities last until 9 pm. It's a magical, family-friendly evening filled with music, lights, and holiday cheer.
Chandler Parade of Lights
Chandler Parade of Lights is a culmination of the holiday festivities in Downtown Chandler. The procession, featuring floats, walking groups, dancing groups, vehicles, marching bands, and more, follows the 3/4 quarter-mile route from 6: 45 to 8 pm. The Parade begins at Frye Rd and heads north to Erie St. along Arizona Ave. All parade entries are eligible for awards for creativity, craftsmanship, and artistic merit. Santa will make an appearance at the parade and stays at Dr. A.J.Chandler Park to meet with children. Kids can also write and decorate wish lists to be placed in Santa's mailbox. Inflatable Bouncer Area is available for the little ones as well. Food vendors and trucks offer delicious locally-made foods and drinks.
