Christmas on the River (COTR) is a popular annual festival held in Downtown Demopolis on the first Saturday of December. The event attracts around 40,000 attendees, with activities taking place along N Walnut Ave & E Washington St and throughout the city. Christmas on the River in Demopolis is filled with exciting events and activities, such as the Jingle Bell 5K (registration $25-$30), the Alabama State BBQ Championship, and the Fair in the Square (7:30 am–3:30 pm). The day includes a parade at 11:30 am, followed by a Nautical Parade, and a Night Parade at 6 pm, finishing with fireworks. Additional highlights include decorating contests for golf carts and floats, pageants, live Christmas music, choirs, and free crafts at Gaineswood.
