Every year, on the first Sunday of May, spectators gather to witness an amazing display of Korean culture and tradition. The occasion is held to honor the late kings and queens of the Joseon Dynasty.

Parade Activities and Route

This event is packed with ancestral rituals, including music, dancing, and a grand parade with traditional Korean costumes. Normally, this event runs on the first Sunday of May from 9:30 am to 3 pm. The Parade moves from Gyeongbokgung Palace, passes through downtown Seoul via Sejongro, Jongro 1, 2, and 3-ga, and ends at Jongmyo.

Jongmyo Daeje is a UNESCO Cultural Heritage and a perfect way to be introduced to Korea's culture and history and enjoy the perfect spring weather outdoors. Make sure to get to the shrine early to save a good spot for the performances!
