Best time to go to The Netherlands

King’s Day (Koningsdag) 2025 in The Netherlands

Carnival, dancing, singing and as much fun as you can ever imagine take place on the King's day (Dutch: Koningsdag), known before 2013 as Queensday, throughout the Netherlands

Dates: April 27

One of the first things you should remember about the King's day is that it actually starts from a King's night. The night is full of surprises and parties and you will not find a bar not celebrating heavily the eve of King's day. Of course, biggest parties will happen in Amsterdam. The day itself is a celebration of the monarch of the Netherlands, and until 2013 it was a queen, thus the day was called Queensday. Since 2013 Willem Alexander has enthroned, so the day was officially renamed into the King's day, and his birthday, April 27, was set as a celebration date. Usually, more than a million people come to celebrate and all sorts of activities are offered to the crowd. There are carnivals, plenty of markets, concerts and parades, and all of that to your disposition!
