Amsterdam Light Festival 2024-2025 in The Netherlands

The city of canals never looked more impressive than during the Amsterdam Light Festival. Illuminated streets and canals of Amsterdam may be one of the most romantic sights​ in the world. Everyone can enjoy artworks in public spaces, and they are often closely connected to their surroundings.

The coming 13 edition coincides with Amsterdam's 750th anniversary and has the theme Rituals. Many renowned artists from around the world gather yearly for the huge illumination event that lights the city and the hearts of everyone around. Come and share the majestic time with your loved ones. Many evening tours are organized, and both walking and boat options are available.

Water Colors Cruise

The most popular option is a Water Colors Cruise, which features light artworks displayed on the canals. The colorful show starts daily at 5 pm and lasts until 11 pm. The boat route starts and ends at the Amsterdam Central Station. The walking route along the Keizersgracht Canal can be no less impressive than a boat route. The mega-popular Illuminade Wandelroute was closed in 2017. The land exhibition takes place at the Marineterrein, a new location not far from the Central Station. Glühwein and some hot snacks will be available to warm up during this spectacular outdoor event.

Amsterdam Light Festival History

The Amsterdam Light Festival traces its routs back to th 'Christmas Canal Parade', first held in 2009. Then, in 2010, it evolved into Winter Magic Amsterdam, featuring a boat parade and various activities. In 2012-2013, locals and visitors have the chance to enjoy a route of light art objects on the canals for the first time. Despite the Covid-19 measures, the tenth anniversary of Amsterdam Light Festival gathers hundreds of thousands of guests.
