Organized back in 1975 for the first time as a special celebration of Amsterdam's 700's birthday, the event has been hosted every five years ever since. Literally thousands of ships sail to the Ij lake behind the Amsterdam Central Station to give their wishes and to astonish the crowd. All sorts of sail ships are present here: old and new, historic and modern, tall and small, everything for the tradition! One only has to wonder why this event does not happen every year.
