Light at Sensorio 2024-2025 in California

Light at Sensorio invites you to Paso Robles to enjoy several fantastic light installations, including Field of Lights and Light Towers. You will be stunned for sure!

Dates: all year round

Paso Robles Light Show, or Light at Sensorio, invites you to see Paso Robles in different colors, illuminated by thousands of lights. This exhibit features five stunning installations, including Field of Lights, Light Towers, Fireflies, and Gone Fishing by British artist Bruce Munro, who is best known for transforming art into an interactive experience with his immersive installations. Dimensions by the artists collective HYBYCOZO is a new addition to the light show. Located in the heart of Wine Country, this 15-acre walk-through experience consists of thousands of stemmed spheres and has been featured in The New York Times as one of the top ten in “50 Places to Visit in 2020”.

The Field of Lights by Bruce Munro

The Field of Lights stretches across the rolling hills of Paso, illuminating the beauty of the countryside and consisting of more than 100,000 stemmed spheres lit by fiber optics powered by solar energy. The idea of this installation came to Bruce’s mind back in 1992 when he was in Uluru, Australia. While traveling through the Red Desert, the artist was amazed by the landscape and its energy. He installed the first Field of Lights behind his family home in Wiltshire, but later, it transformed into a whole new world. Now, its aim is to deliver delight, meditation, entertainment, and exploration to everyone observing this piece of art.

The Light Towers by Bruce Munro

The Light Towers is Munro’s second exhibition at Sensorio. It features 69 Light Towers composed of more than 17,000 illuminated wine bottles. The artist created it to celebrate Paso’s 200+ wineries and extensive wine country's vineyards. These wonderful towers use technology and glowing optic fibers to change colors with a moving musical score. Overall, this mix of nature, art, and technology creates a one-of-a-kind destination for fun and relaxation. Just take a stroll through the grounds of Sensorio with a glass of wine to celebrate the moment, and the beauty around you will make you forget all your worries.

Gone Fishing by Bruce Munro

Another creation of Bruce Munro's genius and talent, Gone Fishing, is a stunning exploration of the fishing experience and its calmness. Constructed on one of the paths at Sensorio's grounds, the exhibit consists of thirty bow-shaped compositions with 25 colorful light rods on each, reminiscent of fishing poles. Bruno Munro's vision of this display was that of a fishing trip, during which you detach yourself from the bustling world and focus on yourself.

Fireflies by Bruce Munro

Munro's Fireflies have been drawing in visitors all over America in several other places, including Hermitage Museum & Gardens and Cheekwood Botanical Gardens. In 2023, the exhibit finally appeared in Sensorio. Created from copper tubes, optical fiber, brass stakes, and almost 10,000 lights, the display was inspired by Hesse's "Siddhartha" and Kipling's "Kim." Dozens of oval-shaped sculptures sway in the wind and leave spectators with nostalgia.

DIMENSIONS by HYBYCOZO

Dimensions is the newest addition to an impressive array of light shows at Sensorio. The display was created by an artistic duo HYBYCOSO, Yelena Filipchuk, and Serge Beaulieu, with the aim to transcend the visitors to a completely different world with lights and music. The exhibit consists of 44 polyhedra, each with its own unique patterns and size. The main piece is built in the shape of an improvised igloo and can fit approximately 20 people. Additionally, Alen Hulsey composed an immersive 33-minute soundtrack, which accompanies the entire performance.

Visitor Reviews

Rove.me reached out to several visitors of the Light at Sensorio to learn about their experience. Our main goal was to hear their thoughts on the organization of the exhibits, the accessibility of the venue, and their general impressions. We also asked if they would recommend visiting Light at Sensorio to others.

Tori Sokolova from Santa Barbara, who visited Sensorio in June 2024 with a group of friends, said, “I highly recommend coming to Sensorio right before the sunset, so you get to see it in two different lights. The Field of Lights was amazing, and then we proceeded to the Light Towers, Gone Fishing, and I really enjoyed the Fireflies. Our final stop was Dimensions, which was a bit intimidating, because you don’t understand how it works at first, but we quickly figured out that some parts of the exhibition we can interact with by turning them. Warning–you can easily get dizzy. The whole ambiance was nice; music really complemented the art.”

Tori also shared other insights on her visit to the exhibit, "By the end of the experience, we settled in the chairs outside and got some food, which was very good. The only thing that confused us was the entrance to different exhibitions because the signs were not lit up properly. Also, you can only bring sealed water bottles, but I had a reusable water bottle and had to empty it before entering. Overall, we enjoyed our visit, and it was definitely worth it. Suitable for families, couples, groups of friends, or even a solo visit."
