The competition enrolls 700 avid athletes, who tackle a 15-mile (25-km) course, descending 8,530 feet (2,600 m). Participants handle versatile terrain, including ice, snow, rocks, and singletrack. Yet, one of the most tricky parts must be the start, when the racers must keep balance on a slippery glacier slope. As a single rider falls, the true scrum begins. Still, no serious injuries were reported at Mountain of Hell. You might even bring your kids to enjoy the children's version of the competition.
