Originating from Asia, Nispero trees also grow in a few areas of Chile, namely around Viña del Mar and Santiago. This yellow fruit is praised for its delicious taste that resembles that of a fresh apricot. The short season along with the relatively small harvest make nispero fruit something precious – therefore, it is more pricey than other summer fruits. Nisperos start to ripen in late spring and is harvested in early summer. They are available only for a couple of weeks in December.
