Since 1989, this interesting a capella festival has been a symbol of Corsica's unique cultural heritage and national rebirth. The town of Calvi brings together locals and visitors to listen to beautiful polyphonic, unaccompanied singing. This event is one of the most notable musical festivals on the island.
The festival hosts not only national performers but also international artists and bands from Bulgaria, Georgia, Inuit, Tibet, Africa, Indonesia, New Caledonia, and other regions.
Polyphonic Tradition
The first mentions of polyphony in Corsica date back to the 12th century. These are two or more different melodies sung simultaneously. On the island, songs are performed a cappella and may include lullabies, funeral songs, and hymns.
