The Silent Regatta 2011 in Venice

"The Silent Regatta" consists of a parade of gondolas heading down the Grand Canal illuminated only by thousands of candles placed in and around the Canal. Once the gondolas reach the basin of St. Marco thousands of small paper balloons, each with a small candle inside, will be released into the air symbolizing the beginning of Lent.
