The International Motor Show Germany or Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung (IAA) is the premier event for auto manufacturers in the whole world. The show dedicated to passenger cars and motorcycles takes place in Frankfurt on Main in odd-numbered years. Meanwhile, the commercial vehicles show is held in even-numbered years in Hanover. The show's organizer is the prestigious Verband der Automobilindustrie (VDA—Association of the German Automotive Industry). The show attracts from 750,000 to 850,000 visitors.
The International Motor Show Germany in Frankfurt occupies 12 buildings and is spread over 200,000 square meters. It features about 1000 exhibitors from about 40 countries. Over 50 passenger car brands from Europe, the US, and Asia are presented. Visitors can witness first-hand the latest innovations, the newest cars, and technologies ensuring the future of mobility. Test drives on the off-road circuit are one of the most popular features of the show. Special classic car exhibitions (IAA Heritage and IAA Masterpieces) showcase unique vehicles that you won't see anywhere else. Industry professionals can participate in the IAA Conference that is dedicated to visions of future transport and mobility. It attracts CEOs of the leading car producers in the world.
The history of the International Motor Show Germany dates back to 1897. The first show took place at the Hotel Bristol in Berlin. Eight vehicles were on display at that time. In the 1930s the show was already super-popular with about 300,000 attendees and up to 100 cars on display.
