Visiting Villages in Montenegro 2025
Amazing nature, delicious home-made food, and a real Montenegrin hospitality—that’s what mountain ethnic villages are about!
Best time: June–August
If you want to feel the full spectrum of Montenegrin traditions, it's a good idea to stay in small mountain villages. From June to August you can find specially organized tours, often combined with rafting. There is a possibility to stay in the village overnight (usually in a tent or a bungalow) and taste national dishes prepared by locals. Try meat with sach, home-made cheese and bread, pancakes with honey, baked potatoes, etc. One of the best places to stay is Scepan Polje—a little ethnic settlement located in the north of Montenegro, near the border with Bosnia. The Tara River is also very close so that you can try rafting and fishing as well.
