The second-highest cable car in France offers terrace views in the summer
Best time: all year round (best mid-June–August)
The ski resort of Tignes, located in the French Alps, boasts one of the highest cable cars in the world. Built in 1975, the cable car line goes to 11,338 ft (3,456 m). Grande Motte cable car base station is located at an altitude of 6,900 ft (2,100 m) and can be accessed via the funicular du Perce-Neige or several chairlifts. From the mountain station at Grande Motte Glacier, one can marvel at the stunning Mont Pourri, Grande Casse, and Mont Blanc ranges. It's also possible to climb 984 ft (300 m) to reach the summit. However, the cable car is mainly used by skiers and snowboarders to get to the slopes.
In the summer month, the ski resort offers a fantastic experience. A cable car is equipped with a panoramic terrace offering an unhindered view of the surrounding peaks. Grande Motte cable car terrace is known as the highest in the world. It offers a chance to discover the true natural beauty of the area, which is not so evident in the winter when covered by snow. Enjoy amazing 360-degree views of the Vanoise National Park as well as views of Mont Blanc, the Cime de Bellecôte and the Grande Sassière needle! The cable car with a terrace operates from mid-June to August.
