Best time to visit
With an affectionate nickname, The Valley Isle, Maui is a Hawaiian paradise with gorgeous landscapes of golden beaches, rainforests, and towering waterfalls. The high season reaches its peak during the summer when families enjoy their stay at local resorts. Although temperatures reach upwards of 90°F (32°C) and hotel prices skyrocket to keep up with the demand, the ocean waters are the calmest this time of the year. If you're traveling with children, summer is perfect for their first swim.
Otherwise, the best time to visit Maui is during the shoulder seasons of spring, from April through May, and fall, from September through October. The temperatures slightly drop to 75-85°F (24°C to 29°C), but the weather is still sunny until the start of the rainy season in November. During these months, the island also hosts numerous events, and the conditions are perfect for a Road to Hana hike. Hotels also often offer discounted rates.
From December through March, Maui sees an influx of surfers wanting to catch the island's impressive winter swells, which are at their peak during this season. This time of year also brings visitors for whale-watching as humpback whales migrate to Maui's warm waters, making it one of Maui's busiest seasons.
