Best time to visit Cape Enniberg
Cape Enniberg is the safest place between April and October in order to avoid any snow or icy terrain on the cliff. Due to its height, the cliff is inaccessible during the winter months.
How to get to Cape Enniberg
You can reach Enniberg on foot from the village of Viðareiði and by boat at sea. The route starts from the upper part of the village, where you can enjoy a view of the church, which is located right on the sea. However, the hike to Cape Enniberg can be a challenge, as it requires prior experience. The first part of the trail runs on grass, which later becomes a little slippery mud and then gravel. So, the hike can take up to 2 hours.
Therefore, to enjoy the views from the top, you need to have very good hiking skills and experience on uneven terrain. Cape Enniberg is one of the most difficult routes on the Ferae Islands so that unprepared climbers can have an exhausting experience.
Cape Enniberg highlights
As you climb the route, you will see an old stone wall that was built to prevent cattle from grazing on the steep parts of the mountains. Also, almost at the top, you will see a small plateau with a rock and sharp stones. One of the stones is called “Kona Per” (“Wife of Per”). According to the legend, men teased a bachelor from Vidareidi and proclaimed the rock his wife. From the top, you can enjoy the spectacular scenery of Malinsfjal, the mountains of Viðoy, and Kunoyarnakkur, the northernmost of the six mountains in Kunoy.
