Despite the fact that there are working elevators, for the past 39 years annually people pay to run up the 1,576 stairs to compete and get to the observation deck of the iconic Empire State Building. This is a challenge that runners and running enthusiasts from all over the world want to add to their bucket list. But since there is a limited number of places those willing to participate have to win this opportunity in a lottery. The organizers of the event also cooperate with charitable organizations in order to help them raise funds for their missions. All the participants get to spend a little time on the top of the world in return.
