Krampus in Portland 2024
Adorned with horns and fangs, the demonic creature from Alpine folklore creeps through the streets of Portland
Dates: December 5–8, 2024
According to old tales from Central and Eastern Alpine regions, the spirit of Krampus accompanies Saint Nicholas on the night of December 5th. While Saint Nicholas praises well-behaved and polite children, Krampus punishes the naughty ones with birch rods and even by taking them to Hell or eating them. Portland has been celebrating this folkloric tradition for more than a decade now with a customary Krampuslauf parade and other events.
