Vernon Winter Carnival showcases all the best things about winter in the Okanagan region. The annual 10-day festival is held in Vernon, British Columbia, during the first two weeks of February. The area, located within about a 5-hour drive from Vancouver, is famous for its large Okanagan Lake as well as lush pine forests, provincial parks, and ski resorts. Vernon Winter Carnival features over 100 events for all ages, serving as a favorite winter playground for thousands of families.
The main highlights of Vernon Winter Carnival include the Hot Air Balloon Festival and Balloon Glow, with giant tethered balloons illuminating the night. The BC Championship Snow Sculpture Competition at Silver Star Mountain Resort is another must-see with some real masterpieces created in front of the public. Don't miss Polar Bear Swim at Paddlewheel Beach, Total Fun Bed Races, and Carnival of Chocolate! Free skating is available at Outdoor Centennial Rink.
