The holiday season in Boston starts with the annual SoWa Winter Festival held over a period of two weekends in late November and early December. The largest shopping village in the city hosts over 100 creative makers offering unique handmade gifts for all ages. Visitors can also enjoy winter cocktails and a stroll through SoWa Art + Design District.

Christmas Market

SoWa Winter Festival takes place at the iconic Power Station, an example of late-industrial glamor, which was built in 1896 and boasted the title of the world’s largest electric power plant at that time. You will see this unique space decorated with hundreds of lights and spreading some serious holiday spirit. Vendors are selling everything from homemade cookies to knitted hats and artsy Christmas trees.

The vendor selection at the SoWa Winter Festival is unique, offering a chance to grab a one-of-a-kind piece of art, which you can proudly display in your house. From knitted hats and sweaters to hand-crafted spice rubs and herb blends, the festival's market is truly something to look forward to every year. There is also a fresh food section, where you can purchase fresh dairy and the best local produce. While you're at it, stop by the food court and try out some of the seasonal treats and specialty foods.

If you've already browsed the entire selection of the festival, which seems impossible to do, consider going out onto Thayer Street. More than 100 shops, boutiques, art studios, and galleries in the area are also participating in the festival with special offers and promotions.

Schedule & Hours

On the opening day of the festival, November 29th, which coincides with Black Friday, the fairgrounds are open from 10 am until 8 pm. From Monday through Thursday, the event operates from 4 pm to 8 pm, while on Fridays, you can visit it from 4 pm to 9 pm. The festival is open from 10 am until 9 pm on Saturdays and from 10 am until 7 pm on Sundays.

Tickets & Parking

Admission to the SoWa Winter Festival is $10. Re-entry to the festival is not possible, so try to make the best out of your visit! No pets are allowed at the venue except for service animals. Cash is preferable at the market, but some vendors might have the option to pay with a credit card. The Power Station features five parking lots, which are usually open Monday to Friday from 6 am to 10 pm. There are daily and monthly parking options available, so you'll be just fine once you arrive there. Parking costs $10, with payments only accepting cash.

Location of Power Station

The SoWa Power Station plays host to the SoWa Winter Festival and is located at 550 Harrison Avenue in Boston. A gem of the SoWa district, Power Station is situated within walking distance of SoWa Open Market and SoWa Art + Design District. You can easily reach the venue by public transportation, either by subway or bus. Street parking is fairly limited, especially during the high season and busy hours of the day.
