Adjara is known not just for its superb citrus fruits but also for tea production. Vast tea plantations become crowded in May when local residents, mostly women, hand-pick the leaves. It's a hard and time consuming labour. So Georgian tea is produced in rather small quantities. About 3000 tonnes of black and green tea is being produced here anually.
