Green Almonds in Istanbul 2025
Spring delicacies of Istanbul prove that the human body can get used to anything—food adventurers will rejoice here.
Best time: April–May
Istanbulites appreciate everything offered by nature: both green and ripe plums, and the same goes for almonds. Green almonds have very little in common with the ripe nuts—actually, one might say they have nothing similar.
Mature almonds are a nut itself, and çağla, as locals call green almonds, is green and furry on the outside and milky, tangy, and crunchy on the inside, with a citrus-like tinge. While ripe nuts may be eaten here year-round, çağla is purely a spring delicacy and is abundant in Istanbul in April and May.
