Beautiful beaches of east coast are less popular with tourists than the west coast due to tsunami of 2004 that ruined much of their infrastructure. But that makes them even more atrractive for those who want to get off the beaten track. North of Trincomalee there is an endless wide golden beach coastline, which stars at Uppuveli and stretches to Nilaveli.
Arugam Bay is the most active and famous east coast resort. Known as A-Bay to most surfers, it's known for the best waves in Sri Lanka. It's located near the Yala National Park where you can not only sunbathe but observe elephants and other animals. Perfect surroundings of white sands will bring good mood and peacefullness to your heart.
