Spring is followed by berry season which is a favorite time for many Texans. The first strawberries ripen in Poteet, known as the Strawberry Capital of Texas. The season starts in late February and lasts until early May. Hundreds of thousands of people come every year to Poteet to watch the fields full of strawberries, enjoy the Strawberry Festival, or just to pick some strawberries on their own. One springtime tradition for people from Austin and nearby cities is to visit Sweet Berry Farm in Marble Falls. Picking your berries is real fun for all families. One more great Strawberry Festival can be found in Pasadena. The three-day event draws tens of thousands of visitors to enjoy the festivities. The juicy fruit celebrations include live concerts with well-known country Western and Tejano musicians, live entertainment, gunslinger shows, bull riding, rodeo performances, carnival attractions, barrel racing, beauty pageants, cook-offs, mud volleyball, the world's largest strawberry shortcake, and much more.
