Lilac Season in Kyiv 2025
Blooming lilacs is a sure sign of spring in Kyiv
Best time: early May
Lilac blooms with their sweet scent and amazing shades of purple are arguably the best part of spring in Kyiv. Many blooming shrubs with cascades of star-like flowers are planted in residential areas. At the beginning of May, they burst with color and fragrance, transforming yards and parks in Ukraine's capital.
The largest collection of lilacs in Kyiv can be seen at Hryshko National Botanic Garden. Founded in 1936, this green oasis covers 0.5 sq. mi (1.3 sq. km) in the central Pechersky District. The garden provides amazing views of Vydubychi Monastery, the Dnipro River, and the Left Bank, framed by blooming lilacs. Every year, the Lilac Festival is held in the botanical garden from early to late May. Lilac bloom usually reaches its peak in the second week of May, but it varies from year to year, depending on the weather. It's best to visit the botanic garden during weekdays since it gets very crowded on the weekends.
In Kyoto Park, located on the outskirts of Kyiv near Lisova metro station, blooming lilacs can be enjoyed together with blooming sakura trees. Nearby Park Peremoha in the Darnytsya area is another great destination to spot blooming lilacs. as well as Park Aurora and Park Vidradny.
