Kyiv Marathon (also known as Wizz Air Kyiv City Marathon) is an annual event held every October. Thousands of runners gather in the heart of Kyiv over the weekend to participate in the series of races. The event features a full marathon course, a half-marathon, a relay, a 10K, and a 4K run. Kyiv Marathon is certified by The Association of International Marathons and Distance Races, known as AIMS.

The main advantage of the Kyiv Marathon, which makes it so special, is a scenic route through the downtown, which includes many city landmarks. The Race village, as well as Start and Finish for the marathon course, is located on Volodymyrska Street, near Saint Sophia Cathedral, founded in 1011. The course then goes west on Taras Shevchenko Boulevard. It passes the Olimpiyskiy National Sports Complex and then heads to Khreshchatyk Street and Maidan Nezalezhnosti, the central square of Kyiv. The loop course ends near Bohdan Khmelnytsky Monument and Sophia Square. Awards ceremonies for the winners are held in the Race Village.

The first Kyiv Marathon was held on October 16, 2010. Just 546 participants from 13 countries covered the first course of 42 km. The popularity of the marathon has grown considerably since then. In the recent years, the event has been gathering about 8,000 athletes and amateur runners.
