Nike Melbourne Marathon Festival 2025

Challenge yourself and join Australia’s largest marathon

Dates: October 12, 2025

Melbourne is the most athletic city in Australia and is a self-proclaimed sports capital of the world. Therefore, it is not surprising that the annual autumn Melbourne Marathon Festival enjoys great popularity and brings together thousands of runners since 1978. Featuring multiple events, including half-marathon, wheelchair marathon, and 5K run, the festival is a great opportunity to challenge yourself and celebrate your accomplishments.

Marathon Route

The course begins at Batman Avenue, north of Rod Laver Arena, and ends at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The marathon route runs through Melbourne's most iconic landmarks, such as Flinders Street Station, the Botanic Gardens, and Albert Park Lake. Slow runners will be redirected to Fitzroy Street near Beaconsfield Parade, run seven loops around Brunton Avenue, and finish the marathon at the MCG.

Other Events

In addition to the classic 26 miles (42.195 km) distance, there are 13 miles (21 km), 6 miles (10 km), 3 miles (5 km), and even 1.6 miles (2.5 km) runs. The last distance is very popular among children and parents with young kids. There is also an accessible wheelchair marathon.

Half-Marathon Course

The half-marathon route also begins at Batman Avenue and ends at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The course generally follows the marathon one, but the half-marathon participants return to Brighton Road after circling Albert Park Lake and finish at the MCG.

Schedule

The main marathon begins at 7 am and lasts until 2 pm, while the wheelchair marathon kicks off at 7:55 am. 10K run is scheduled to start at 7:30 am, followed by the half-marathon at 8 am. 5K run is set to take place at 11:30 am, while 2.5K walk unfolds at noon.
