Melbourne is the most athletic city in Australia. Therefore it is not surprising that the annual autumn Melbourne Marathon Festival enjoys great popularity and brings together thousands of runners since 1978.
The marathon route runs through Melbourne's most iconic landmarks such as Flinders Street Station, the Botanic Gardens, and Albert Park Lake. In addition to the classic 42.195 km distance, there are a 21 km, 10 km, 5 km and even 3 km runs. The last distance is very popular among children and parents with young kids.
