Sanlam Cape Town Marathon 2024

Thousands of runners from around the world gather in Cape Town for this great athletic event. The iconic South African city marathon takes place in Green Point, which allows participants to enjoy views of Cape Town’s mountains and the ocean, and many of the city's attractions. Proclaimed one of Abbott World Marathon Majors Candidate Races, the marathon also serves as an effort to put Africa on the map of the running world. Every October, the event gathers 10,000 runners, including world elite athletes, as well as wheelchair racers social and first-time runners.

Route

The race begins at Fritz Sonnenberg Road, near DHL Stadium, and finishes with Vlei Road at Cape Town Stadium. The course passes through some historic landmarks of the city and offers incredible vistas of Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean. You'll be running past several Cape Town beaches, including scenic Bakoven Beach.

Other Events

Besides the main marathon distance, runners can choose to complete a 10km Peace Run/Walk or 5km Peace Run. Trail run options are also available, including 46km Trail Marathon, 22km Trail Run, and 11km Trail Run. Trail run unfolds on the grounds of Table Mountain National Park, one of the most scenic spots in the city.

Schedule

The Cape Town Trail Marathon begins at 6 am on Saturday, followed by 22K Cape Town Trail Run at 6:45 am and 6:47 am. 11K Cape Town Trail Run kicks off at 7:30 am. 10K Peace Run begins at 7 am, while 5K Peace Run kicks off at 8:05 am. The main marathon is set to take place on Sunday at 6 am, while wheelchair users set off from the start line at 6:10 am.

Cost & Race Fees

Entry fees for the Cape Town Marathon events differ depending on the participant and type of race. Marathon costs range from 560 South African Rands for South African runners to 2500 South African Rands for international ones. Trail Marathon cost ranges from 1800 South African Rands to 2000 South African Rands.
